Welcome to Mallee Lands

The mallee is a disparate eco-region which extends across southern Australia, from south west New South Wales, through north-west Victoria, east and west South Australia and south west Western Australia. Today mallee lands are mostly wheat country and in the West it is often known as the wheat belt.

This website has been created to enable people to share their memories and images of life in the mallee, and to contribute to a project that will chart the changes to mallee lands since Europeans first encountered this Aboriginal landscape. We hope to be able to better understand the interactions between people and land in the mallee and explore the ways each has shaped the other.
